Salvia Apiana, also known as white sage, bee sage, or sacred sage, is an evergreen perennial shrub that originates from the southwestern United States and Northwestern Mexico, specifically found along the coast of the Mojave and Sonoran Deserts. It has been traditionally used by various Pacific Coast Native American communities for its healing properties. For example, Cahuilla women drink a tea made from the roots to aid in post-childbirth recovery. Additionally, the leaves of S. Apiana are commonly burned in smoke-based purification rituals. A 1991 study conducted at the University of Arizona revealed that S. Apiana has strong antibacterial effects.
